Abstract
OBJECTIVE: To examine whether previous severe hypoglycemic events were associated with the risk of all-cause mortality after major cardiovascular events (myocardial infarction [MI] or stroke) in patients with type 1 diabetes. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODs: This study is based on data from the Swedish National Diabetes Register linked to patient-level hospital records, prescription data, and death records. We selected patients with type 1 diabetes who visited a clinic during 2002 - 2010 and experienced a major cardiovascular complication after their clinic visit.
